University: The University of Alabama in Huntsville Multipath Routing in Wireless Mesh NetworksGraduate Student: Rick TuggleResearch AreaI am studying the implementation of a multipath routing protocol in a multihop wireless network to reduce packet loss and minimize latency. The objective of my research is to demonstrate a multipath routing protocol that uses the differentiated services code point (DSCP) value to deliver a service level (packet loss, jitter, and latency). The protocol will determine based on DSCP, how many paths and of what type to utilize in managing traffic flows. Two additional excursions beyond the main effort include ingress and egress mechanisms for multi-core network processors. The first is the use of multiple routing engine cores in parallel. The routing model will be modified to allow an ingressing multipath packet to be simultaneously distributed to multiple routing engine cores on the network processor and then, depending upon the QoS value of the packet, for it to be routed across multiple paths. The second is to examine multi-core network processor shared memory structures to identify an expedient method for managing the convergence of multiple traffic flows back into a single egress flow with close attention to latency and out of order packets.
