PHOTONICS TECHNOLOGY




The Optical and Photonics Technology Option within the MSE degree requires 33 semester credit hours divided into three components: Core - 21 hrs., Electives - 6 hrs., and Practicum and thesis - 6 hrs.

Pre-requisites

Applicants must have the knowledge of subject material in:

    EE 213     Electrical Circuits I
    EE 382     Analytical Methods for Continuous Time Systems
    EE 315     Introd. To Electronic Analysis and design
    EE 426     Communication Theory
 
 

I.  Core                                                                                  21 hrs.

 A.  Optics Principles                                                                        6 hrs.

  1.  OSE 541         Geometric Optics
  2.  OSE 542         Physical Optics

 B.  Optics Design and Manufacturing Technology                        9 hrs.

  1.  OSE  Elective
  2.  EE 670         Optomechanical Design and Manufacturing
  3.  EE 671         Optical Fabrication and Testing

 C.  Engineering Management                                                          6 hrs.

  1.  ISE 570 Integrated Production and Process Design
  2.  One of the following courses:
   EM 660         Engineering Management Theory
   EM 662         Foundation of Total Quality Management
   EM 666         Engineering Project Management
   MSC 690       New Product Development
   MGT 601       Introduction to Management of Technology
   MKT 606       Marketing in a High Technology Environment
   MGT 622       Managing Technical Professionals

Practicum is generally performed on government or industrial facility. Thesis is required.
